What I Learned From Writing My Video Script

Before this class, I thought a video script was mostly for people making movies or big projects. I did not realize how much it helps, even with a short video. Writing the script forced me to actually decide what my message is and what I want the viewer to feel at the end.
I also learned that a script makes filming easier. When I know the order of ideas, I can plan what shots I need, and I do not have to guess while I am filming. It helps me avoid rambling, and it makes the final edit cleaner because I am not trying to save a messy take.
Another thing I learned is that writing the script shows me what does not work before I waste time filming it. If a part feels boring on paper, it will probably feel boring in the video. The script helps me tighten things up, add a better hook, and keep the pacing moving. It is basically me doing the hard thinking up front, so the rest of the process goes smoother.
